Any time is a good time to start your fitness goals, but the New Year is a common time to start. The most important thing is that you are making a LONG TERM lifestyle change. If you are going to make this step, it’s going to take a shift in the way you live your life.

Welcome to February 2014!  The crowded gyms filled with New Year’s Resolutioner’s are beginning to dwindle down in occupancy.  Hopefully, with the help of the Adonis Community you will remain motivated and steadfast in the pursuit of your goals.   Any time is a good time to start your fitness goals, but the new year is a common time to start.

Some people show up in January hoping it will all be done in February, but it just does not work that way does it?  The problem with this mentality is that it is not life changing.  Real change requires you to change your habits for life.  You can’t just fix everything in one month and go back to the way you were living your life that got you overweight and out of shape in the first place.

The most important thing is that you are making a LONG TERM lifestyle change.

If you are going to make this step, it’s going to take a shift in the way you live your life.

The first 21 days are the toughest, it’s the habits you develop here that eventually become the way you live your life.  These habits over time are performed with less effort as it becomes familiar and more natural to you.

Why is exercise is important?  Not only is it healthy for you, it provides structure – like a steering wheel – it creates a mindset for changing your body.  It adds purpose to your day, giving you something to strive for. Proper exercises accompanied with good food choices adds incentive to see results quickly.

The habits of good diet and exercise build upon each other, creating a snowball effect and your progress accelerates as your quality of life increases.

DIET (two diets):  Diet from food and diet from fitness media (limit your reading of fitness media).

Be patient because it won’t happen as fast as you want it to, but patience is what will finally bring you the results.

Today John and Brad talk about the Adonis philosophy of weight loss and how to change your shape for life.

Keith is one of our many veteran “Every Day Adonis” men who maintains the Adonis Lifestyle. Much of his success comes from eating healthy. He pays attention to the reactions in his body and how specific foods make him feel. Stay tuned for his transformation interview coming soon!

John and Brad have been researching this subject and found:

  • The classic nutrition model:  Feed the machine, done.
  • The new model:  Feed the machine that feeds or feed the micro machines that feed you -you being the macro machine.

Most of us know that probiotics are good for you and make you feel better. Antibiotics can kill good bacteria and probiotics help build the good bacteria back up.

Within your intestines there 10 times as many bacteria cells as your body cells.  This is a very big part of your body, so it makes sense that this is important.

In order to appreciate the importance of the bacteria it is crucial to know they are a fundamental part of your body.  They influence hormones, how you feel, and are very much a part of who you are.

Recent research pointed out that obese vs lean people have very different bacteria population within their bodies.

The bacterium changes your ability to metabolize certain foods.

Right now John and Brad are spending some time to find out if there is a better way to use this information to help you lose weight more successfully.  They have found that there seems to be a link to this and those who have been the most successful at using the Adonis Golden Ratio System.

What about you?  Do you think about what you eat and how it makes you feel and your ability to perform for all that you do every day?

Diet and Fitness; a Moment In Time

Here’s the next episode of the UNCENSORED Podcasts Season 2.

Today’s topic:  Diet and Fitness; a Moment In Time

The amount of activity these people did make all of us in 2013 look lazy by comparison no matter how much you think you exercise.

The amount of activity these people did make all of us in 2013 look lazy by comparison no matter how much you think you exercise.

Diet and Fitness; a Moment In Time

The current view of what is necessary or acceptable from a diet and exercise standpoint is largely dependent on your surroundings and the era you’re living in.

Modern western industrialized societies can be described as ‘obesogenic’ as there is an abundance of cheap high calorie density food combined with a highly sedentary workforce. On a daily basis it would be easy to consume triple the amount of calories you burn, and many people do.

But has it always been this way?

How much more activity did people really do before the industrial revolution and could we really eat 4000-5000 calories every day without gaining weight? Is it possible to eat that much food and still be healthy?

We review a research paper that examine what life was like in the Victorian era in England. The amount of activity these people did make all of us in 2013 look lazy by comparison no matter how much you think you exercise.

They also ate significantly more calories than we do now, and didn’t gain weight. They were what we would call healthy and didn’t have the modern lifestyle diseases that we see today such as heart disease and diabetes.

This research from the Victorian era sheds some light on just how little exercise we really do, and how much more we’re really capable of. It also shows how your society and surroundings play a big part in how active and ‘fit’ you will likely become.

Are We Natural Cyborgs?

Here’s the next episode of the UNCENSORED Podcasts Season 2.

Today’s topic:  Are We Natural Cyborgs?

Are We Natural Cyborgs?

Are We Natural Cyborgs?

Are We Natural Cyborgs?

Diet and fitness marketing tends to refer to what is ‘natural’. Many diets promote a way of eating that is ‘natural’ and the way we evolved to eat.

But are we natural beings anymore?

It’s not uncommon for people to have many artificial, prosthetic or unnatural ‘parts’ to their body.

We can have surgically reconstructed joints, bones, eyes, ears (hearing aids), artificial hearts, mesh plating (stents), balloons, sensors (pacemakers), artificial valves, and many other artificial parts to replace or enhance our ‘naturally’ failing parts.

We also have drugs that mimic or replace the functioning of ‘natural’ systems of the body that just aren’t working well anymore.

It then becomes a question of what is natural. Does it even make sense to strive for what is ‘natural’ with our diet and fitness if our bodies are becoming less natural themselves.

In this new era of modern medicine and devices you could argue that we’re becoming ‘natural cyborgs’.

Satisfaction With Your Body Starts With the Right Goals

Many people have a desire to change the look and shape of their body, and so they set a new body image goal.

In many cases the goal we choose for our body image is not attainable and should have never been chosen as our goal in the first place…so how do so many of us end up with such unrealistic goals anyway?

We tend to build an image of what we think we ‘should’ look like using pictures of athletes, bodybuilders, fitness models and celebrities. We seem to pool these images into an idealized form we think we can build and then pursue it never once questioning if it’s even possible.  In many cases there is also a specific bodyweight associated with this goal body look.

This however can be a recipe for years of frustration and disappointment if we cannot somehow build the body we thought we could. Once you accept a more realistic and achievable goal, the frustration can disappear and a new sense of calm confidence will set in.

And make no mistake, I’m not talking about a lowered expectation for an unimpressive body. I’m simply talking about realigning the goal of your new body image with reality.

In this podcast we will talk about:

1. Setting realistic goals

2. Why a specific bodyweight should never be your sole goal

3. Why you can’t ‘cheat’ your genetics (with training or diet) and what happens when you try to

4. Focusing on the advantage your genetics gave you instead of the shortcomings

This podcast features an interview with our BUILD category winner Pierre Farine who will teach us many of these lessons and more.

Pierre also shares an extraordinary thing that happened to him during his transformation.
