Carlos’s Interview:

How old are you?  I am 37 years old.

When did you first start working out? If it was before finding Adonis Golden Ratio (AGR) can you briefly explain the types of programs/workouts you did before finding AGR?

I started  working out at about the age of 16.  However, I didn’t take it seriously until I joined the U.S. Army. In the Army, my workouts consisted of cardio, interval/pyramid  training, and some strength training but nothing really concrete amounted in order to create an “Adonis-Type” body.  While serving in the Army, I did my strength training after work and  hit the gym regularly in an effort to build some muscle.  Prior to the  Adonis Golden Ratio I was on the Somanabolic Weight Training program.

Did you follow any sort of diet programs before finding the Adonis Golden Ratio? If so what were they and how did they work for you?

I didn’t follow any diet programs, all I did was listen to industry BS about needing to eat 3000 calories/day to build muscle and 1g of protein for every pound of body weight. I listened to that advice and all it did was get me fat. I was looking for answers and could not find it. It was very frustrating.

How exactly did you find out about the  Adonis Golden Ratio?

I actually stumbled upon AGR by mistake. I saw John  Barban talking on a video clip with Kyle Leon discussing a bench press technique.  At that time I was doing the Somanabolic Weight Training program. I was intrigued when John started to talk about the science part. I had been following the other system but I just wasn’t seeing the results. The eating habits were a bit much and I was not really thrilled with the workout program.

I wanted to learn more about AGR so I Googled it and was hooked when John talked about the science aspect of AGR.  A lot of things he talked about went against industry BS. So I said what the hell! I jumped into AGR.

What made you decide to enter the contest?

I decided to enter the contest because I said to myself I think I have what it takes and believed I could compete with the people I had seen win previous contests.  So I said I am going to go for it!

What did you expect from yourself during this contest?

My expectations for myself were to remain disciplined and push hard to get the body I always wanted. I had conquered the diet portion so it was just a matter of hitting the workouts as outlined.

How did you fit the workouts into your daily routine?

I made the workouts a priority between family, school, and other elements of life. If you want the body that you envision in your mind, then you need to make it a priority. Many people thought I was a freak for telling them I couldn’t eat as much because I was almost at my daily calorie limit or I couldn’t join them at a specific time cause I had to hit the gym.

What did you do from a diet standpoint?

My diet program I used was Any Thing Goes Diet (AGD) at first which was great in learning things about  food that you would never consider and how to develop the mindset and overall approach to food itself.  Like John said, “a calorie is a calorie”. I used the AGD in the beginning of the transformation and during the end transitioned to the Reverse Taper Diet (RTD) which I really love and I use regularly now.

What did you find most challenging along the way and did you have any setbacks?

Patience was my big challenge but I had some small challenges which came  in the form of  adjusting my  eating habits. Sticking to the amount of daily calorie intake was challenging but once I got the hang of it, it was not an issue.

How did people in your life react as your body started to change?

As my body started to change it was cool to see other  people’s reactions. Family and   friends began to ask what I was doing, that it looked as if I  lost weight or I looked great. Some people could not understand what I was doing and said it would be too hard for them to make the change I made.  To keep things simple, I told them I was calorie counting and working out.

When did you realize things were really starting to change?

I really started to see the change around June or July of 2012 my abs really began to show. It had been since the age of 14 that I was last able to see my 6 pack and now at 37 years old I have them back. It’s funny, you know your body has changed when your 7 yr old daughter says “Daddy you have a six pack wow!”

How did you feel when you looked at your before and after pictures side by side?

When I Iook at the before and after pictures I am proud at the results of my hard work and discipline. I thought I would never find the answers to a great body. Everyday now I look in the mirror and say “37 is the new 27” because many people now think I am 27 yrs old.

What advice would you give to other guys who are sitting on the fence not sure about entering a contest?

I would say to other guys that it is possible to  transform your body and create a lasting great look. All you need to do is have the discipline and will to make it happen!

Whats next for you?

Next for me is to continue to work on my body to get it to where I really want it. Don’t get me wrong, I am happy with the look but there is always room for improvement in my book. I want to build more muscle and work on the weak areas of my body.  A future goal of mine is to re-enter  the transformation  contest and attain a physique similar to what Pete Dickison has.

Summary of Carlos’s Best Tips:

  • Following the mainstream fitness advice does not does not guarantee a physical transformation.
  • The science behind the Adonis Golden Ratio is unmatched.  I believed and trusted it was the program I’d been looking for all along.
  • Expect some challenges along the way, remain disciplined, push hard and you are on your way to achieving the body you’ve always wanted.
  • Make your nutrition and training a priority, but also keep in mind the balance between other elements of your life.
  • Initially some people maybe resistant to the efforts you’re making to transform your physique.  This is normal, stay the course and if people are truly interested in what your doing keep it simple when explaining to them.

Renne’s Interview:

How old are you?  I’m 33 yrs old.
When did you first start working out? If it was before finding Adonis can you briefly explain the types of programs/workouts you did before finding Adonis?
Other than the Physical Training aspects of the Navy’s program, in which I have over 13 years of service, I  have tried a lot of late night infomercial workout systems.   I went from program to program, but only got minimal results upon completion of the programs.   I have tried Tae bo  (11 years ago),  Slim in 6 (9 yrs ago) , Power 90 (9yrs ago),  P90X (5 yrs ago),  Insanity (4 yrs ago),  RIP 60 (mid 2011), and Six Pack Shortcut (late 2011).
Did you follow any sort of diet programs before finding Adonis? If so what were they and how did they work for you?
Prior to Adonis, The only diet I tried to stick with is the zero willpower eating system which was included with six pack shortcuts (SPS).   I stuck with this diet for about 4 months while doing SPS, but found it to be not sustainable since I got tired easily of eating 5-6 times daily.  Even though I prepared my weekly meals ahead of time, I easily got tired of the schedule and the taste of food.  The tupperware meals I prepared wasn’t really satisfying after heating it up in a microwave.  I just forced myself to eat to get the results I wanted, and even though I gained muscle I looked bulky while doing the program, which wasn’t the look I always wanted.
             How did you find Adonis?
I found AI through the SPS program through an Interview between Dan Rose from SPS and Brad Howard.   After listing to the podcast I signed up for the news letters to see if the AI program is something I would consider if SPS didn’t work out for me.   I’m so glad I did this since now I found a lifestyle where it got me the physique I wanted that is easy to sustain.
What made you decide to enter the contest?

I wanted to enter AT8 at first, but at that point I was still recovering from my Patella reconstructive surgery that happened a year prior.   I didn’t think I would get the desired results to place since I cannot give my max effort on all the lifts that require my legs.  Also, I  did not want to re-injure myself.  I did shadow the contest however, and found that I was able to get dramatic results even with light weights/resistance.   When AT9 was announced I was more than ready to take the challenge.

What did you expect from yourself during this contest?
I still had doubts about placing since I saw myself already in a decent shape for my before pictures already and I wondered if I could really further my body’s transformation at this point.  After seeing my after pictures, boy was I wrong!  I was still able to transform my physique in my opinion.
How did you fit the workouts into your daily routine?
I workout from home the majority of times so getting the workout in after work was easy for me.   From time to time if not busy I have access to the base gym and would go there early morning or during my lunch break.   I was able to knock out AIG and and twice a week add on a booster.
What did you do from a diet standpoint?
I followed RTD from the “get go.”   I did occasionally go over my recommended weekly calories at least once a month if there where special occasions that happened.   During my over consumption I went over by between 1000-2500 calories during the week.  Luckily I was still able to lose inches and drop my BF% even after my over consumption.
What did you find most challenging along the way and did you have any setbacks?
The only setback I dealt with aside from my disabilty  was during the 1st month of the contest I was transferred to a different base that was about 96 miles one way from my home, my daily commute was bout 3-4 hours a day and found myself too tired to even workout once home the first few weeks.   Once I got used to it though I was back to my routine.
How did people in your life react as your body started to change?
The only people that knew I was in the contest were my wife and kids,  so they supported what I did and saw that I was getting results as my physique began toning up.   However, when other family members  and close friends saw me they though I was sick since they were not used to seeing me this slim.   They didn’t really understood what I was doing and tried to convince me to put on more weight.
When did you realize things were really starting to change?
I realized my body changing as soon as I experienced the Adonis effect from people that I met for the fist time since they had no clue  how I looked like before.   On several occasions whether it be in a gym, restaurant, or stores I often got complimented and people asked me for advise about how to get the physique I possessed.   It was at this point, I realized I had transformed to the body I always wanted.
How did you feel when you looked at your before and after pictures side by side?
I was ecstatic to see the comparison,  I really could not believe it a first when I compared them,  Like what I explained earlier, during the beginning of the contest I wasn’t really sure how else I would transform myself at that point if I was starting off with a decent before body.
What advice would you give to other guys who are sitting on the fence not sure about entering a contest?
Regardless if you have doubts about placing or not, entering the contest will motivate you to push harder towards your transformation.  The results you get will always be priceless.  You have nothing lose in entering one of the contest since it is free to enter.   Aside from that you don’t need to hire a photographer for your after pictures.  It can easily be done by yourself, a friend, or a family member and still get an outstanding picture.
Whats next for you?
I am currently doing ATS and will more than likely shadow AT10.   I ‘m in a middle of a residential move right now which has somewhat affected my RTD tracking and workouts.  Once settled in though I plan on adding more size to my frame to reach my actual AI while maintaining my abs.   I am still under by about 2 inches for my golden waist and and inch under my Golden shoulder, with my new RTD recommendations along with ATS and IXP, I plan on accomplishing this goal in the near future.
Summary of Renne’s Best Tips:
  • Stay Informed. Listen to the podcasts, subscribe to the AI news letters.
  • Reverse Taper Diet (RTD) was followed from the “get go”.  It’s possible to still lose BF% and inched even with moderate over consumption of daily calories.
  • Have a close support group to assist you in the transformation process.
  • An indicator of your transformation progress  is the Adonis Effect, as you interact with others, they may want to know how you were able to possess your exceptional  physique.
  •  If you have doubts about placing, entering the contest will motivate you to push harder towards your transformation.  The results you get will always be priceless.

How to Become a Triple Threat: Lessons Learned from FMI

California Dreamin’

In my previous blog I introduced the Golden Eye for the Adonis Guy  series, which will feature several topics not limited to but including my experiences, observations and “lessons learned” from fitness/fashion shows and my association with the modeling industry.  In this installment I’d like to talk about my very first trip to the “Left” coast, better known as “California.”

Although I  grew up in the Southeastern part of the United States,  from an early age I found myself fascinated with the lifestyle and culture of the Southern California area.  As I watched TV/movies or read in books & magazines, I observed that there was an emphasis placed on health, beauty, &  fitness which revolved around a “laid-back” yet fun and entertaining lifestyle on the beach.  I never forgot these childhood memories’ and would often daydream about what I would do if I was to visit or live there.  I believe these values are directly related to the Adonis Lifestyle;  living your life to the fullest while being confident that you look and feel your very best.

In essence, you are “Living the Dream” because many people wish or desire to get in shape, but very few accomplish this mental & physical transformation.  With the support of the Adonis Lifestyle community, after undergoing a transformation of my own, I’ve been empowered to view my physique as a business.  My first trip to California was of a two-fold significance. It was one-part “childhood dream come true” and one-part “business investment.”  Although the flight from Atlanta International  to John Wayne Airport was a  little under 5-hours, my actual journey began over a year ago when I first learned of a fitness and sports network known as FMI.

Fitness and Sports Network’s FMI™ is the FIRST EVER entrepreneurial and entertainment career development production for fitness and sports professionals.

What Is FMI?

The date is  May 21, 2011 and I am at my first National competition in the Men’s Physique Division.  This was a special event not only because it was my first time qualifying but it was also the first time a “Pro Card” would be awarded to the top Fitness models.  Needless to say, the stakes were high and the competition was fierce.  I had the opportunity to meet and chat with several successful fitness models and learn from their perspective and their own personal journey in the fitness industry.  I was eager to learn as I was just getting started myself.  I wanted to know what it really takes to make it or what other opportunities maybe available that I hadn’t considered.

One particular fitness model was gracious enough to inform me of company know as FMI or Fitness Model International .  He told me when he first heard of the company he attended one of their conference’s and although it wasn’t the most convenient to attend it was the greatest decision he had made in his fitness modeling career.  Later that night, he would go on to make history by becoming the first Pro in the Men’s Physique Division.  Our brief chat and observing what he went onto accomplish after the show left a lasting impression that this “FMI” thing was something worth checking out.

I’m sure by now you’re wondering what FMI is all about?

Fitness and Sports Network’s FMI™ is the FIRST EVER entrepreneurial and entertainment career development production for fitness and sports professionals.  FMI offers multiple educational methods to provide it’s clients the best chance for multiple employment opportunities.

Now after returning from my first FMI conference,  my only regret is not going sooner.  One of my new year’s resolution was to “work smarter and not harder” in my fitness model career; this conference was in direct alignment with that resolution.

The conference was like attending a “Fitness Entrepreneur Boot Camp.”  Whether you were a personal trainer, blogger, or model it didn’t  matter where you hailed from in the  “wide world of  fitness” there were challenging lessons and informative lectures inspiring you to perfect your skill or craft.  I personally signed up for the “Photography and Academic” course which afforded me the opportunity to shoot with some of the top Photographers on the West Coast and become educated on how to further market and develop my brand to a mass audience.

What I found particularly interesting about the academic course is that majority of the speakers were Alumni of previous conferences’ who had returned to share their wisdom and knowledge.   The conference also gave us unique access via the “Q & A session” with a Talent Panel  ranging from celebrities’ from the popular “Baywatch”  TV series to Director’s of  National Modeling Agencies.  This was very encouraging  as I was able to relate to some of their obstacles they were able to overcome to be successful.

How to Become the Triple Threat: Modeling Alone Is Not Enough

While there were several topics covered at FMI, the over-arching theme I took away from the conference was in order to take full advantage of what the fitness industry has to offer you must become the triple threat.  In other words, you need to diversify your strengths.  I mentioned earlier at the beginning of this post that I was looking for opportunities in fitness that I hadn’t considered.  Attending the FMI conference served as an introduction to several facets of the fitness industry that I’ve yet to pursue.

I learned that a Fitness Model in the Digital age has so much more to offer than modeling alone.  In this paradigm of thought we are beginning to see a new breed of model known as  the “Fitness Entrepreneur“.

A Fitness Entrepreneur is able to successfully model, write, and speak well on camera. This “Triple Threat” model is not only valuable to themselves as their able to take personal responsibility for their “Physique Business”  by developing their own “World Class Brand”  they are also highly sought after by  major companies’ in the form of endorsement contracts,  for their ability to market/influence a mass audience.

Never has their been a time where the “Fitness Modeling Field” has been so equal in regards to opportunity.  While no one can guarantee that someone will succeed in their goals, one key element that all success individuals possess is the ability to F.O.C.U.S

“Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand.

F.O.C.U.S. – The Path to Becoming EXTRA-Ordinary

F.O.C.U.S.- Follow One Course Until Success — A great acronym which captures the essence of the actual word itself.  In the  pursuit of your goals whether it be fitness or anything else in life there will be obstacles.  This was the story told by William Lockley, an Alumni from a previous conference. (He had a stunning transformation in which he lost lost 140+ lbs in 9 months with no gimmicks or surgery.  You can check out his story here. )

For his business he has branded the term “F.O.C.U.S.” as it was the most resonating thought in his mind which allowed him to overcome obstacles that stood in his way.  Keep in mind William’s transformation wasn’t overnight, but his ability to F.O.C.U.S.  served as the pathway to an EXTRA-ordinary transformation.

In conclusion, I hope that by sharing some of the lessons learned from the FMI conference you will look for ways to apply these principles in your own lives’.   Take advantage of the positive association around you here in the Adonis Lifestyle community.

Similarly to becoming a triple threat fitness entrepreneur, I’d encourage you to discover you’re strengths and then look for ways to improve upon them to have a greater positive impact on those around you.  Last but not least, within moral and ethical reason be willing to do whatever it takes to achieve your goals and dreams despite the obstacles that may come in your way.

Simply put, Just F.O.C.U.S.

Yours in fitness,

Allen Elliott

Golden Eye for the Adonis Guy

“Golden Eye for the Adonis Guy” By: Allen Elliott

Golden Eye for the Adonis Guy

As an ambassador of the Adonis Lifestyle, I strive to take the utmost care when writing blog posts.  My goal is that the content I bring to you will be encouraging, informational, and last but not least entertaining.

In keeping with that tradition I present to you: Golden Eye for the Adonis Guy–an ongoing series featuring several topics not limited to but including my experiences, observations and “lessons learned” from fitness competitions and my association with the modeling industry.  This Golden insight that I will share with you comes from the results of applying the Adonis Effect and the pursuit of obtaining my ideal AI ratio.

However, I will forewarn you that my perspective is biased.  Rightfully so, as I’ve been on both sides of the “fitness” fence.  However, let me assure you the grass is greener on the “Adonis Lifestyle” side.

It’s often said, “there’s more than one way to skin a cat.”  While skinning cats is of no interest to me, I understand or perceive the meaning; which brings us to today’s discussion of perception.

Faces or Vases?
“Perception is Reality.” -Lee Atwater

Is Perception Reality?

The famous quote, “perception is reality” by Lee Atwater compels us to ask a few questions. First of all, what is perception? Perception is defined as the awareness of the elements in an environment through physical sensation.  The sensation being our five senses: sight, sound, taste, touch, & smell.

Secondly, what is reality? Reality is defined as a real event, entity, or state of affairs.  After gaining understanding of these two definitions we can begin to draw a few conclusions.  What we perceive often times leads us to pass judgment on ourselves or others.

In the context of body types, someone could be labeled: short, tall, skinny, fat, or muscular.  While nothing is particularly wrong with any of these, it still does not negate the fact that all of these body types will make an impression on others.  Sad yet true, a person’s body type is subject to discrimination. For example, a model is held to a higher standard, as they are valued for their aesthetic appearance or the illusion there of.  Rather fitness or fashion, the model’s goal or objective is present themselves’ in the most compelling way to market & promote their client’s product or service.  While this may seem like a very crude definition of a model, keep in mind millions of dollars are spent in marketing.  Therefore, only the best models will be chosen to represent a company; which makes the modeling industry all the more competitive.

I’m sure by now you’re wondering how and why these concepts apply to you?

To answer your question, these concepts apply to you because  a model has a very significant influence on your perception of the world and the expectations you have of it.  From your favorite cologne  to your choice of body wash, we have been conditioned to expect certain features and attributes from the model who represents their respective product or service.  I make this point only to emphasize that in the Information Age,  we are constantly bombarded with several forms of media all lobbying to influence our perception.  To bring this into perspective consider the quote, “image is everything.” While this is true in some instances, what is certain is that your image will leave an impression upon others.  With that being said, how you are perceived by others is indeed a reality in their mind.

Augment Your Reality (AI=AR)

Now that we’ve come to realize the importance of perception and that at no fault of our own, we are often times judged by our appearance, we have a decision to make. Before revealing what that decision is, a certain phrase or saying comes to mind.  The saying, “Don’t hate the player, hate the game” means don’t fault the successful participant in a flawed system try instead to learn that aspect which displeases you.  In this scenario, you are the player and the game is the society you live in. With that being said, if you change the player, you will change the game. In other words, by augmenting yourself  you can change the way society responds to you; which in turn places the odds in your favor.

There is a specific area of research called Anthropology that involves the in-depth examination of how people interact with one another. This research has shown us that all human beings have the ability to pick out a beautiful and attractive person. Physical attractiveness has a significant effect on people’s perception of  you.  Changing your body into the ideal human form (AI Golden Ratio),  has a direct influence on your ability to impress others; therefore, augmenting your reality (AR).  It is a physical law of attraction that is simply undeniable.

In conclusion,  under the new series: Golden Eye for the Adonis Guy  I’ve shared from my perspective, if perception is indeed reality and how to augment your reality by changing yourself.  It’s fascinating to know that the shape of your body can and will affect your sex life,  success in business, friendships and all other forms of social opportunity.

The ball is in your court now… What type of player will you become?

Your Brother in Iron,

Allen Elliott

G-Day: Enter The Gauntlet & Join The AT9 Invasion

The 9th Adonis Index contest (AT9) officially began this past Monday.  AT9 contestants will have the first opportunity to equip & utilize  AI’s newest workout, The  Adonis Index  Gauntlet (AIG).

To bring  you up to speed if you’re new or just catching up, here are a few talking points on AIG:

  • A gauntlet is defined as going through an intimidating or dangerous crowd, place, or experience in order to reach a goal
  •  Like a traditional gauntlet, AIG has challenging workouts that stand in your way; not to prevent you from your goal but to empower you as you overcome and complete each workout
  •  This 12 Week Peak Muscular Conditioning Program is your “road map”  to prepare you for your next photo-shoot or contest

For the first time in AI history, a 12 Week Contest Prep workout has been created.  While this is an important milestone,  I have drawn my inspiration for this blog from an even more significant event in history.

“You are about to embark upon the great crusade toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you…I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle.” – General Dwight D. Eisenhower

History of D-Day

The term D-Day ( Tuesday, 6 June 1944) was used for the day which commenced the landing operations of the Allied invasion of Normandy, in Operation Overlord during World War II.  D-Day would later be recorded as the  largest amphibious invasion in world history which was executed by land, sea, and air elements involving over 160,000 Allied troops.

“Day of The Gauntlet”: Your  Road Map Through AT9

Similar to D-Day, the term G-Day marks the commencement of  using  the AIG workout as a road map to successfully navigate through the AT9 contest period.  AIG has been birthed from the many contests and photo-shoots prepared for and the countless hours of research, trial, and error spent finding out the best way to arrive in that “Ideal” state.

AIG has been battle-field tested and is now ready for the exclusive use of all AI brethren, better known as the “Golden Army“.

The Adonis Index Gauntlet (AIG) is a 12 Week Peak Muscular Conditioning Program which features six (6)–two (2) week modules:

  • AIG Module 1:  Physique Conditioning (weeks 1-2)
  • AIG Module 2: Giant Wave Sets (weeks 3-4)
  • AIG Module 3: Mini-X Sets (weeks 5-6)
  • AIG Module 4: Tri-Phase Sets (weeks 7-8)
  • AIG Module 5: Power Giant Sets (weeks 9-10)
  • AIG Module 6: Touch Up Sets & Peak Week (weeks 11-12)

The benefit of the two-week module system is the “gauntlet effect” that occurs as you progress from module to module.

>>Watch How to Enter Contest<<

In conclusion,  G-Day marks the commencement of  using  the AIG workout as a road map to successfully navigate through  the AT9 contest period.  Again, I call-out to the AT9 contestants as I have to those who have already begun AIG.  This is a call for those who are willing to display heroism in their fitness lifestyle.   A “higher calling” if you will.

As you mount up for the 12-week transformation (AT9)  and/or prepare to Enter the Gauntlet (AIG)  remember these three (3) concepts to assist you on your mission:

  1. Consistency: Proper Habits Take Time to Develop
  2. Utilize Resources: Discover which Tools Help Keep You on Track
  3. Harness the Fear:  Build Mental Courage

The time has come to hit the beach… I hope to see you on the other side.

Your Brother In Iron,

Allen Elliott

The “Photo-Shoot” Ready Recipe: Four Key Ingredients to Prepare for your Contest Photo Submissions

1.    Conditioning: Shirt-On vs Shirt-Off? What’s the Difference?

When it comes to conditioning, there are two different worlds we live in.

There is the “Shirt-On” world where most people reside and then there is the “Shirt-Off” world which is displayed on many a beach or magazine cover.

Neither world is bad but there are rules for living in both.

A person who has good conditioning will possess these three  features:  separation in the muscle groups, striations, and vascularity.  Unfortunately, in “Shirt-On” world it is is very difficult to tell the conditioning of a person because clothes cover the body.

A man who looks muscular “Shirt-On”  may not have the same conditioning as a man who  “Shirt-Off”  is ripped but not as impressive  in the same outfit.

In regards to this contest you will be judged by the rules & standards of  “Shirt-Off” world where conditioning is paramount.

As you’ve followed the AI programs, you have heard of the the term “Golden Ratio” or your body’s ideal  shoulder-to-waist (AI) ratio.  This transformation contest measures your starting and final AI-ratio to evaluate your progress over the 12 or 20 week period.

Nevertheless, here are a few suggestions to enhance your conditioning for your Contest Photos:

1. Mild Water Depletion: Sometimes your body retains water on the outer layer of your skin which can impact your conditioning. To help rid the body of excess water eat  foods such as asparagus and oatmeal or drink a low sugar green tea beverage 2-3 days prior to your photo-shoot for best results.

Additionally, take photos of yourself  in this state early in the morning as opposed to later in the day.

2. Fasted State: Intermittent fasting  has also been known to enhance conditioning.

Your skin is tighter  and muscle appear more defined as your body’s fat burning hormones are elevated.

To capture yourself  in the fasted state take photos first thing in the morning upon waking up.  If your following the “Eat Stop Eat” or the “The Reverse Taper Diet” regimen try planning your photo-shoot about 6-8 hours into your fasted state.

3. Carb-Loaded:  The “Carb-Loaded” state is the direct opposite  of being fasted.

However, they both create two very aesthetic looks which are ideal for a photo-shoot.  In the carb-loaded state you body resembles more of a full-muscular look which also helps to tighten your skin and improve vascularity.

To achieve the “carb-loaded” effect choose between one or two  of the following foods: honey (2 tablespoons), dark chocolate (4-6 squares), a peach (medium-size), or banana (medium-size) about 15-30 min prior to your photo-shoot and get your body pumped up with some simple exercises (i.e. push-ups, resistance band curls, etc.)

You still have a few days to experiment with what technique works best for you.  So take several photos in the various states and see which one’s turn out best.

2.    Posing: If you got it, make sure you show it…Properly!

Posing is the art of positioning your body in a specific way to present the best visual effect.

How you pose is very important.

In traditional bodybuilding competitions if a judge cannot see a certain part of your body they cannot judge it. Or even worse they will assume this area is under-developed.  We all have strengths and weaknesses in certain parts of our body.

Some muscles respond better to the training than others.

Posing is also a way to creatively display the parts of your body that are most flattering to your physique.

Practice, Practice, Practice! In front of a Mirror is preferred… Here is a “quick refresher” video of  the standard front, back and side shots that mimic your ‘before’ pictures and are required for the contest.

3.    Tanning: The Icing or Glaze on the Cake

The use of tanners and oils will also  improve your final look.  It has been observed that the darker your skin, the more definition can be seen.

This is most evident in bodybuilding competitions when two competitors of different ethnic backgrounds appear equally dark but are of different skin tone.

You may already tan regularly but if you don’t, there are some “sun-less” alternatives to enhance definition  for example, body oils, spray tans, sunless tanners, etc.  It’s always best to begin with a moderate amount and increase from there.

Your Final Contest Photos are a composite of: Conditioning, Posing, Tanning, and Lighting. Capture your physique at its best!

4.    Photography & Lighting: Almost Live

Since this is an Online and not a “Live” competition your photos will be all the judges have to grade you on.

While a professional photo-shoot is not mandatory,  it’s very important to  select an area whether indoor or outdoor with ample amount of lighting.

If you decide to use extra lighting, the best results were achieved  from past contestants when the lighting was balanced on either side and were pointed upwards at a 45-degree angle.

A solid black or white backdrop is preferred for indoor photos to help eliminate distractions and keep the focus on your physique.

Feel free to be fun and creative in your outdoor poses.  The bottom line is  that you’ve worked hard on your physique and you want the camera to tell the “whole” story.

In conclusion, remember these Four Key Ingredients in order to become “Photo-Shoot Ready” on Command:

  1. Conditioning
  2. Posing
  3. Tanning
  4. Photography/Lighting

Very Respectfully,

Allen Elliott
